Dr. John Pates is a BPS chartered and HPC registered Sport Psychologist with expertise in Higher Education and high performance environments. For over 20 years John has worked with elite athletes, businesses and academic organisations. John is perhaps best well known for his some of the world’s top players. He was the sports psychologists for the successful 2014 Ryder Cup European team and has helped professional golfers win European, World and Major championships.

John has also worked with Olympic and commonwealth champions, professional cricketers, footballers, basketballers and rugby players.

In the business and academic world John has used his knowledge of high performance in sport to deliver services and drive change in a diverse range of international organisations such as Hewlett Packard, Scania, SABMiller, St John’s Ambulance Services, University of Derby, Bournville College, Newman University and Mercuri International. Taken together these experiences have helped him gain valuable insights into management and how to achieve peak performance in highly competitive businesses and academic environments. John has written four books and has over 20 academic publications and is the main researcher behind the development of the Inspirational Leaders Survey (ILS), The Client-Centred approach and the application of hypnosis to enhance flow states in elite athletes.
