My research area comprises a critical sociology of sports coaching and pedagogy. The purpose is to examine the complexity of the inter-active coaching context, and how practitioners manage the power-ridden dilemmas that arise, in an attempt to develop greater ‘reality grounded’ preparation programmes for students and coaches. In an attempt to explore such uncertainties, dilemmas and micro-political actualities I embrace a range of qualitative research methods as ways of better understanding sports coaching and sport performance.
