Personal profile

Susan is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with FHEA status working in the Veterinary Nursing Department at Hartpury University. Research interests include rabbit health and welfare and student veterinary nurse training. She is currently undertaking a Masters in Research looking at the clinical coach role in practice. She is a member of the Community of Practice at Hartpury, collaborating with colleagues in the area of exotic animal health and welfare. Other knowledge exchange activities include supporting clinical coaches in practice and delivering clinical coach standardisation, plus feature article publications.

After completion of her veterinary nurse training in 1994, Susan has worked in a variety of settings including Wood Green Animal Shelter, 1st opinion and referral small animal practice, up to 2016, when she joined Hartpury to pursue an academic career.  In 2011, Susan was awarded a 1st Class B.Sc. (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing Science. To maintain her clinical skills, Susan volunteers with StreetVet, offering free veterinary care for pets belonging to homeless individuals.

Currently she is a Lecturer and Clinical Placement Tutor for the Veterinary Nursing Programmes and supervises Level 6 projects for the Honours Degree. Susan is also the Internal Quality Assurer for the Primary Centre at Hartpury and conducts training practice visits across England and Wales.
